So, today we ate our first of MANY hamburgers! We visited the Twisted Root Burger Co. at their newest location in Richardson.
We both agree that they were mighty fine hamburgers! We entered the place to find a very long, winding line. We waited in line for about 20 minutes, but we're not sure really how long we were in line because we were so amused by everything to look at. As we were looking at the menu we noticed: "Grass Fed"! We thought of Lee and had to take this photo! We also enjoyed the other eclectic types on burgers noted in that same photo. Apparently ostrich has the highest protein percentage of 32%. There was a wall of bumper stickers that anyone could place on the wall. Quite amusing.
We each got a hamburger, although mine was a cheeseburger. Travis got curly fries that were definitely better than my sweet potato chips. I got the Homemade Root Beer that was delicious! And Travis got a chocolate shake make with homemade ice cream. Mmm! After we gave our order we were each given a card with a name on it. I was Strawberry Shortcake and Travis was Poncho Villa. It was how they called out the orders when they were ready. Others were Oprah, Clark Gable, Austin Powers, etc. Travis enjoying the FIRST bite of the FIRST burger! They were SOOOO good! The grease was running down my hand and arm. The burger has a smokey peppery taste. It was so good, I can't imagine how good the rest of these burgers will compare with this one. Mmm!
Our next burger will be this Thursday for Travis's birthday. We're going to Snuffer's because he wants cheese fries. :) I'm not too excited about Snuffer's, but we'll see.
Tonight while we were visiting Travis's parents, Travis was reading Texas Monthly Magazine's 50 Best Burgers in Texas. It hit him almost immediately that we would eat each and every one of these burgers. I decided that I would photograph and blog about our quest. We typed up the burger list and are ready to check them all off! From Lubbock to Port Aransas, El Paso to Jefferson, we will plan out trips just for burgers or create a new path when going to visit family around the state. There is no time frame, but we are hoping 2 years. We don't see ourselves making it out to El Paso any time soon, but looks as if we may be making the trip just to finish the list!
